Kenny Park CEO, Simone 박은관 시몬느 회장
Simone CEO Kenny Park will deliver a presentation on the challenge and success of Korean hidden champions at the 2014 K.E.Y Platform. Simone, a handbag ODM, manufactures handbags for global luxury brands such as Michael Kors, Tory Burch, DKNY, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Burberry.
In 1987, long before a luxury brand market was formed in Korea, he founded Simone and has directly signed supply contracts with globally renowned luxury brands, showcasing the company’s technological prowess. Beyond the realm of a simple subcontractor, Simone independently controls material development, design and quality, even deciding supply prices. This was made possible because its overseas clients highly acknowledged Simone’s expertise in the field.
Thanks to its global success, Simone’s sales are expected to soar to US$ 1 billion this year, from US$ 4 million in 1987 when it was established. In 2012, it was chosen as one of the Korean Hidden Champions by the Korea EXIM Bank.
Kenny Park first engaged in the handbag manufacturing business at Cheongsan Corporation in 1980. After graduating from college, he joined Cheongsan Corporation, a handbag exporter, rather than taking over his family business, which was ocean fisheries. While visiting handbag manufacturers in the US and Europe, he realized that the future of the sewing industry on the wane depended on higher-quality and differentiated products.
CEO Kenny Park, who has brought innovation to Simone, is planning to lead the company to take another leap forward by making forays into global markets with its own brand products. He also plans to acquire an overseas luxury brand firm via Simone Investment, Simone’s subsidiary. -
